Algarroba powder is made by drying and then grinding the seed pods of the South American algarroba tree.
Algarroba is similar to carob but with it's own distinct flavour and not quite as sweet. We use it in smoothies, raw cakes and raw chocolate recipes.
Algarroba is low glycemic (about 25) so is suitable for diabetics and could help balance blood sugar.
I like to mash up a banana and mix in a teaspoon of algarroba and maybe a handful of ground sesame seeds for a quick snack.
