Stevia: Natural Sweetener.
Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) is a green leaf in the same family as the sunflower, also called sweet leaf. It grows in South America and has been used by tribes in Paraguay and Brazil for centuries. It is 30 times sweeter than sugar but doesn't contain any calories.
Note that not everyone likes stevia. It can't be used a direct replacement for sugar in all applications, although most people find it works well to sweeten tea or coffee.
Stevia is very low on the glycemic index (it's actually zero!) and therefore a great choice for diabetics. One study has shown that it may even promote insulin production and therefore help reverse diabetes.
This is not an extract, just the whole leaf dried and ground up.
