This fermented cod liver oil is an amazing source of vitamin A and D. Plus EPA, DHA and omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 essential fatty acids.
While he was researching the diets of traditional peoples with no contact with western civilisation, Weston Price discovered the combination of fermented cod liver oil (CLO) and high vitamin butter oil. Note that the dose on the bottle is less than the Weston Price Foundation recommend, they recommend 5ml per day, which is what I am currently taking along with 2.5g of the butter oil.
From the label:
Many of the great historical cultures had one sacred food which they relised on to ensure strong mind, body and spirit: fermented fish/fish liver oil. The mighty Roman soldier was given a daily ration of fermented fish oil. The stoic Scandinavian Viking had a drum of fermenting cod livers outside the door of his home.
Historical Sacred Food - Dr. Price travelled the world studying the traditional diets of many cultutres. In every culture he discovered sacred foods that were carefully collected and prepared to ensure the strong mind, body and spirit of its people.
Why take fermented fish oil?
Many people assume that they can get Vitamin A from vegetables, but we only get beta-carotene from vegetables which our body needs to convert into retinol, the active form of vitamin A, and some people cannot make this conversion optimally. So for some people, a direct source of vitamin A such as cod liver oil is necessary.
Vitamin D can be made by the body through sun exposure, but in some climates (such as most of the UK), this is not possible for a large part of the year, so a food source of vitamin D is necessary. Some foods contain small amounts of vitamin D2, but it is D3, as contained in this oil, which our bodies need.
Notes on flavour
Unlike most cod liver oil, Green Pastures CLO is not industrially processed and standardised. This means that every batch has a different flavour, sometimes stronger, sometimes milder. This is nothing to worry about, and is generally related to the diet of the fish.
